Julia Collins, Volunteer is Honoured by the Town of Richmond Hill

Julia and Luigi

Julia Collins, a faithful volunteer since 1992, working with Luigi at The Daybreak Club on a group mosaic.

Julia Collins was introduced to L’Arche after a talk by Sue Mosteller at her church. She asked about volunteering, and was paired with Peggy Hopkins because of their shared passion for the Toronto Maple Leafs. Sadly, the Maple Leafs never won the Stanley Cup over all the seasons that Peggy and Julia attended games. But, their friendship blossomed and their relationship deepened.

After Peggy passed away, Julia wanted to continue her connection to L’Arche and found a place of belonging at The Club, one of L’Arche Daybreak’s day programs. Her life-time of service was honoured in 2017 by the Town of Richmond Hill with a Volunteer of the Year award, the first L’Arche Daybreak volunteer to receive this.

Our community is blessed with generous people and volunteers who have taken the time to develop relationships with us. They become part of the fabric of our community life, and are an example of the many groups of people who are transformed by the people with disabilities at L’Arche. Thank you Julia, and all the volunteers who add much to our life together!
