Meet Lissie, our youthful 80 + year old volunteer

Lissie - one of our faithful volunteers at the Craft Studio.

Lissie – one of our faithful volunteers at the Craft Studio.

Lissie Pedersen has been a faithful volunteer at the Craft Studio since 2001, working at first with Tracy Westerby hand-over-hand to produce beautiful ceramics together.

She remembers that when her husband died in 2003, the entire Craft Studio came to the visitation to support her, and Tanya and Tracy came to the funeral. Tracy insisted on coming to support her friend, bringing flowers from the garden at the Corner House, where Tracy lived. When she got back to her volunteer day at the Craft Studio, Tom Krysiak had drawn a picture of Lissie with a water fountain of tears coming out of her eyes.

Lissie shares that “I have benefited from so many wonderful relationships with both assistants and core members and have many other warm stories. I am eternally grateful to L’Arche for all it has given me, the love, the sense of belonging, purpose in life, true friendships, and not to forget joy and happiness!”

Our community is blessed with generous people and volunteers who have taken the time to develop relationships with us. They become part of the fabric of our community life, and are an example of the many groups of people who are transformed by the people with disabilities at L’Arche. Thank you Lissie, and all the volunteers who add much to our life together!
